Who will be giving the presentation?
The co-founder and Production Manager of Actuality Media, Aubrie Campbell Canfield, will give each presentation on every stop of the tour. You can read her bio here.
Who should attend this kind of presentation?
Although specifically designed for students studying media, anyone who is interested in social entrepreneurship may also find value from the presentation. We recommend that students studying business, sociology, anthropology and social work also be invited to attend.
How will our students benefit from this presentation?
In addition to being exposed to new short social documentary films, students will learn about the existence of changemakers working in their own community. Clear, achievable steps will be outlined to begin research, and then production, on their own documentaries, based on a system that Actuality Media has developed and refined in countries around the world. The impact of such positive media will be put into a meaningful perspective in the hopes of inspiring more students to positive storytelling. Interested students will have access to free, online production and distribution guides specifically designed for films about changemakers. We will also discuss the online short documentary competition that Actuality Media will be conducting in 2013 with prizes that include program scholarships, filmmaking equipment and travel incentives.
What films will be screened?
Each film that will be screened has been produced by an Actuality Media student crew on one of our documentary production programs and highlights the work of a changemaker in some part of the world. If a student or alumni from the host school has traveled with us in the past then their film will be among those screened. We aim to showcase the high quality of documentary content that can produced even under time constraints, and in difficult environments, with dedication and an achievable plan.
How long will the presentation last?
Including the screenings, the presentation should last about an hour. If requested, a question and answer session can follow with whatever time limits the host dictates.
What is the tour schedule?
We are currently developing the schedule and the exact dates in each region will be determined by interest. If you would like us to come to your campus, please let us know as soon as possible.
Is there a cost for the Actuality Media Campus Tour to come to our school?
No. Actuality Media is offering this presentation to any interested school or student group at no cost. We ask that the hosts do not charge an admission in order to ensure that as many students can attend as possible. If a school has resources to offer to offset some of our costs (such a lodging or assistance with transportation) that would be great, but is in no way required.
What are the audio/visual requirements for the presentation?
Each venue for the presentation needs to have video screening capabilities and a basic public address system with microphone.
